Glubran 2 Surgery

Synthetic Surgical Glue for Advanced Procedures

Glubran® 2, a CE-marked Surgical Glue Designed for Precision and Performance

Synthetic surgical glue Glubran® 2 is a Class III CE-marked medical device for both internal and external use.

Glubran® 2 is a synthetic, biodegradable cyanoacrylate-based glue composed of N-butyl cyanoacrylate (NBCA) and methacryloxysulfolane (MS). It represents the second generation of an existing product, improved through the addition of this monomer, synthesized by GEM S.r.l.

The inclusion of MS provides significant advantages: greater biocompatibility and elasticity, along with a lower polymerization temperature compared to other cyanoacrylates, minimizing the risk of thermal damage to surrounding tissues.

Glubran® 2 is ready to use. It has strong adhesive and haemostatic properties and, once polymerized, it creates an effective antiseptic barrier against the most common infectious and pathogenic agents encountered during surgery.

It polymerizes rapidly in contact with living tissue and moist environments, forming a thin, elastic film with high tensile strength that ensures firm adhesion. This film naturally adapts to the tissue surface, is impermeable to liquids, and remains stable in the presence of blood and other organic fluids.

BACTERIOSTATIC

Bacteriostatic

Inhibits bacterial proliferation for 7–10 days, forming a protective barrier against common pathogenic agents.
SEALANT

Sealant

Forms a thin, waterproof, and breathable film that seals effectively while allowing oxygen exchange to support tissue regeneration.
HEMOSTATIC

Hemostatic

Reacts with blood to trigger hemostasis, controlling bleeding and preventing delayed hemorrhage, even in anticoagulated patients.
ADHESIVE

Adhesive

Ensures strong adhesion even in moist environments, providing high tensile strength (>18 kg/cm²) for secure tissue bonding.

Features & Benefits

  • Adhesive

Glubran 2 ensures strong adhesive performance, securely bonding to tissue even in moist environments, and offers high tensile strength, withstanding a minimum load of 435 N (approximately > 18 kg/cm²).
  • Sealant

Glubran® Tiss 2 forms a thin, protective film with strong sealing and waterproof properties. Its synthetic formulation ensures the film is both waterproof and breathable, allowing micro-gas exchange so oxygen can pass through and support tissue regeneration.
  • Hemostatic

It reacts with blood — even when uncoagulated — triggering a mechanical hemostatic effect directly at the bleeding site. This action helps control intraoperative bleeding and prevents delayed hemorrhage, ensuring effective hemostasis even in anticoagulated patients or those with hereditary coagulation disorders.
  • Bacteriostatic

It provides a bacteriostatic action that inhibits bacterial proliferation for an average of 7-10 days, creating a protective barrier that hinders the growth of common pathogenic agents.
  • Tissue Healing

Supports tissue healing due to its biocompatibility and low inflammatory impact.
  • Complex Procedures

Suitable for complex procedures. It can be used in Open, Laparoscopic and Edoscopic Surgery.
  • Polymerization

The polymerization temperature is 45°C, significantly lower than the 80–90°C typical of pure monomer cyanoacrylates. Moreover, the polymerization process is very fast: it completes within 60 to 90 seconds and reacts almost immediately—within one to two seconds—upon contact with tissue or moist environments, blood or other body fluids such as serum, lymph, gastric or pancreatic juices, bile, saliva, and urine. The device does not polymerize in the presence of air. At the end of polymerization the surface of the film is no longer adhesive.
  • Impermemeable and Biodegradable Film

During polymerization, a thin and elastic film is formed that adapts to the anatomy of the tissues. It ensures flexibility and long-term mechanical strength. It blocks fluid passage and protects the treated area. The film is biodegraded in a period ranging from 15 days to six months.
  • Ready to Use

    No preparation or mixing required.
  • Compatibility

The device is biocompatible with moist environments, blood, and various body fluids—such as serum, lymph, gastric and pancreatic juices, bile, saliva, and urine—and it is compatible with prosthetic materials, including surgical meshes.
  • Safety

The device does not induce chronic inflammation or cause tissue necrosis. Glubran® 2 behaves like an inert biomaterial, with bacteriostatic properties that inhibit bacterial proliferation for up to seven days, further increasing safety and preventing infection.
